Suggestion for rules of engagement during protests

This is just an idea for establishing some protocols so militants, pacifists, live streamers, and others can all function together more effectively during police conflicts. These rules would be described and agreed upon by all participants before each event, although organizers would be free to alter them depending on the nature of the event. The purpose would be to allow us to decide as a group how to respond to OPD actions during protests when there is no time for discussion or formal voting. If, during a confrontation with police, … Continued

Oathkeepers

Do you guys know about these people? They literally represent a “5th column” movement.  I think it would be interesting to print out some of their stuff and distribute it to the police that we see at OGP and the protests. check out their site  http://oathkeepers.org they essentially advocate that US military and peace officers should uphold the constitution even if it means being insubordinate. They have recently begun a push to recall congress members that voted for the NDAA. http://oathkeepers.org/oath/2011/12/25/oath-keepers-launches-national-effort-to-recall-andor-remove-members-of-congress-who-voted-for-ndaa-military-detention-merry-christmas-u-s-congress/ On the other hand they are kind of on … Continued

Gear-up to Save the Movement! @projectjulio

This Police Brutality CANNOT continue. My advice is simple and straightforward. The following DEFENSIVE EQUIPMENT is NECESSARY for continued occupation and cost less than $20 each: Full-Face Gas Masks (anti-tear gas & anti-pepper spray) and Wooden shields (anti-rubber-bullets,anti-bean-bags & anti-clubs) Also wooden shields are >$20 (or for $3 you can just saw off a plank of particle board from Home Depot) and can form an impenetrable perimeter. POLICE BRUTALITY HAS TO STOP SOMEHOW, SOMEWHERE. Let’s make it now. More info on twitter @projectjulio P.S. I don’t make, sell or profit in any … Continued

Who is the 99% and What Does That Mean?

When considering the statement, “We are the 99%” it’s important to distinguish between the message as “symbol” and the literal meaning. While to some this distinction is clear, to many others it isn’t.  That is, obviously the occupy movement doesn’t “represent” in any real way the 99%: 1% is approximately three million people in the US. Adding to that the much larger percent of people hired to defend the interests of that 1%, like the  private security (see this article for more on the subject: http://www.counterpunch.org/2011/10/10/financial-giants-put-new-york-city-cops-on-their-payroll/ ), public police forces … Continued
